FIR Registration & False FIR Lawyer in Karachi
Getting an FIR registered, escalating a refusal, and defending against a false FIR.
Getting the FIR registered
The FIR sets the criminal process in motion, and what it says matters for everything that follows. We help complainants approach the police station that has jurisdiction with a clear chronology and their evidence organised, check the FIR before it is signed, and make sure they obtain their copy.
Before you go to the police station
- Your CNIC and a written timeline of the incident
- Copies of documents, photographs, videos or screenshots
- Medical records, where relevant
- Names of witnesses
FIRs in Karachi are typically written in Urdu — you have the right to understand what is being written before you sign.
If the police refuse to register the FIR
First understand the reason: jurisdiction, missing information, or the view that the matter is civil. If the facts disclose a cognizable offence and registration is still refused without lawful justification:
- Escalate to senior officers — the DSP for the area, the SP for the district, then the DIG for the range, with a written complaint that the SHO refused.
- Apply to the Justice of Peace — under Sections 22-A and 22-B Cr.P.C., the Sessions Judge acting as ex-officio Justice of Peace can direct the police to register the FIR. The same provision covers transfer of investigation and complaints of police neglect, failure or excess.
Keep a record of each visit — dates, officers spoken to, and any diary or reference number.
If you are named in a false FIR
Whether an FIR is false is ultimately decided on the evidence gathered in the investigation and, where applicable, by the court. Seek advice promptly: early steps can protect you, including bail where arrest is a risk. In suitable cases, a petition to quash the FIR can be filed before the Sindh High Court under its inherent powers in Section 561-A Cr.P.C., often together with Article 199 of the Constitution.
Civil or criminal?
Property, contract, partnership and inheritance disputes often need careful analysis — some involve both civil and criminal issues, and choosing the wrong remedy delays the result.
