Key points

  • •Attestation is in person, by appointment, at the High Commission in London or a consulate in Manchester, Birmingham, Bradford or Glasgow.
  • •The High Commission lists £10 for a standard power of attorney and £20 where a foreign national's document has been legalised by the FCDO.
  • •A power of attorney attested in the UK must be registered in Pakistan within four months.
  • •A khula decree from a Pakistani court is not automatically recognised in the UK — take UK advice too.

How do I make a power of attorney in the UK for use in Pakistan?

  1. 1

Get the power of attorney drafted

We draft it for your exact purpose and send it to you ready to print and sign.

  2. 2

    Book an attestation appointment

Book at the Pakistan High Commission in London or the consulate covering your area. Attestation is by appointment.

  3. 3

Attend in person with original ID

Every executant appears in person with an original, valid Pakistani passport, NICOP or CNIC. The mission attests your signature, not the contents.

  4. 4

    Pay the attestation fee

The High Commission's schedule lists £10 for a standard power of attorney, plus £10 for each additional executant.

  5. 5

Send it to Pakistan and register it

Courier the original to your attorney. It must be registered with the relevant registrar in Pakistan within four months of attestation.

The High Commission has also offered NADRA's online power of attorney service, but posted a notice that it was temporarily suspended because of technical problems. Check its website for the current position before you rely on the online route.

Which Pakistani missions serve the UK?

  • •Pakistan High Commission, London
  • •Consulate of Pakistan, Manchester
  • •Consulate of Pakistan, Birmingham
  • •Consulate of Pakistan, Bradford
  • •Consulate of Pakistan, Glasgow

What if I only hold a British passport?

British passport holders can first legalise the document through the FCDO legalisation office and then have it attested at the High Commission. The High Commission's fee schedule lists £20 for a power of attorney executed by a foreign national with FCDO attestation. Holding a NICOP keeps the process simpler.

Will a Pakistani khula or divorce be recognised in the UK?

Not automatically. Recognition of overseas divorces in England and Wales is governed by the Family Law Act 1986, and Pakistani khula decrees have been challenged in UK courts — for example in Q v Q [2025] EWFC 192 (B). If you live in the UK and plan to remarry or bring a financial claim there, take advice from a UK family solicitor as well. We provide the certified Pakistani court record they will need.

What Karachi matters do clients in the UK usually bring?

  • •Inherited houses and plots, and partition between siblings in the UK and Pakistan
  • •Selling family property through an attorney
  • •Illegal occupation by tenants, relatives or land grabbers
  • •Succession certificates for a deceased parent's accounts
  • •Khula, divorce, maintenance and custody

Pakistan is 4–5 hours ahead of the UK depending on the season, so UK mornings overlap with our working day.
