Legal routes

2. FIR — for cheating (Section 420 PPC) or criminal breach of trust (Section 406 PPC), depending on the facts.
3. Urgent account freeze — where the receiving account is known, an application to freeze it before the money is withdrawn.
4. Civil recovery suit — a money decree enforced against the fraudster's assets.

What to do first

• Report the fraud to your bank the same day.
• Keep transfer receipts, transaction IDs and bank statements.
• Screenshot every message and the profile or website used.
• Note phone numbers, usernames and account names.
