Consumer Court Lawyer in Karachi

Defective products and poor services — notice, claim and appeal under the Sindh Consumer Protection Act, 2014.

Under the Sindh Consumer Protection Act, 2014, a consumer in Karachi must serve a 15-day legal notice and then file a claim before the Consumer Protection Court within 30 days of the cause of action.

Who it is for

Consumers with a defective product or a poor service — from builders, schools, couriers, telecom companies, online sellers or workshops — and businesses defending a claim.

The courts

Karachi has district-wise Consumer Protection Courts (for example Karachi East and Karachi South), notified Civil Judge and Judicial Magistrate courts. Since the 2023 amendment, an appeal lies to the District & Sessions Court.

How a claim runs

  1. Legal notice — a 15-day notice to the seller or service provider is a required first step.
  2. Claim — if the matter is not resolved, the claim is filed within 30 days of the cause of action; the court can condone delay.
  3. Reply and evidence — the other side answers; evidence is recorded.
  4. Decision — refund, replacement or damages.
  5. Appeal — under Section 34, to the District & Sessions Court.

The law

  • Section 4 — product liability
  • Section 13 — services
  • Section 29(4) — the 30-day limit
  • Section 34 — appeal, as amended by Sindh Act XXIX of 2023

Documents

  • Receipt or invoice, and the warranty card
  • The product, or photographs of it
  • Chats and emails with the seller
  • The legal notice and its courier receipt
  • CNIC
